Derby name:
RevRa
Real Name:
Sarah Butler
Number:
11
How did you come up with your name and number?
My nick name has been "Ra" since I was 13. Ra, like the Egyptian Sun God. The Rev part stands for Reverend. I am an ordained minister. I became a Reverend so I could perform a marriage ceremony for some friends of mine this summer. A skater on the team started calling me RevRa and it stuck. I like the way the number eleven (11) looks when it is written on your arm. I think it looks like someone scratched or a ripped up your arm!!
What made you first start roller derby, or how did you discover roller derby?
A friend of mine on the team, Red Hot ta Molli, called me and said that I should come and check it out. I went to see what the fuss was all about and told all the girls I would watch for about 30 minutes. It didn't take but 5 minutes for me to ask for some rentals to get out and skate! I haven't looked back since! I was BORN to DERBY!!
Why do you love roller derby so much?
Girls and I generally don't mix very well. I thought my whole life I would only have men to talk to but, I have been blessed with a sport that I love and girls that love it too. To have a common love of a sport and be able to get out there, knock each other around, then go have a beer... it's a BEAUTIFUL thing! I truly love my team-mates and that is what I love about Derby!
How many hours per week do you practice?
I aim for 6 hours a week.
What is your favorite drill?
My favorite drill is the snake.
What is the most challenging part of roller derby?
I HATE endurance!
What are your non-derby hobbies?
Hobbies? Outside of Derby? Ha! Those exist!
What’s your favorite piece of your roller derby wardrobe?
Booty shorts! I have a nice ass.
How does your derby alter ego differ from your everyday persona?
I think it's an accumulation of who I really am. I am Ra, everyday.
What is a common misconception about roller derby?
I have had people ask me point blank (more than a few times) if I prefer the company of woman (to put it nicely). While I am sure that there are women who do, that is not the case for ALL Derby Girls. It's not offensive, just annoying to go to a bar for a drink with the girls and have some drunk old guy say to you, "So which one of these girls is your girlfriend"!! I always ask, "Which one of these cops is going to pull you over on the way home"!! lol
